It was recently reported on About.com that Provent has gone out of business. I didn’t see that one coming!
Provent became a big craze last year when the New York Times featured in it a blog post called “Treating Sleep Apnea Without the Mask“. The device is basically two patches that are kept in your nostrils while you sleep. There are two small plugs that allow air to go into the nostrils when you breathe in, but don’t allow any air to go back out when you breathe out. The idea is that this causes a build-up of air in your nasal passage, and that air eventually gets pushed down your throat, opening your airway.
The catch? If you open your mouth, the build-up of air in your nasal passage becomes irrelevant, so the Proven patches no longer work.
